On Sunday, the Packers announced their practice squad signings – a list that initially included wide receiver Alex Gillett, but not highly productive cornerback to Jumal Rolle.
Many, including me, were very surprised.
Not to take anything away from the productive camp turned in by Gillett, I was even more impressed with the active Rolle, who seemed to always be around the ball and stuck his nose into every tackle he could.
So, I wasn’t surprised this morning when the Packers announced the signing of Rolle to the practice squad and the cutting of Gillett.
While this move sucks for Gillett, it’s great for Rolle who, in my estimation, will be a better fit in making the Packers even stronger at a position need.
In other news, as the Packers practiced for the second day in a row in pads as they prepare for Thursday’s showdown with the world champion Seattle Seahawks, three players missed practice (but no surprises here):
It wasn’t a surprise to see these players on the shelf – but what is great is that the Packers’ injury situation is nowhere near what it’s been in recent years and a hopeful sign of things to come.
But we know how quickly things can change in the NFL.
Let’s hope that this list remains short as the Packers move through the early portion of their NFL regular season.
