The Green Bay Packers and Letroy Guion have come to an agreement on a single-year deal that will keep him in Packers News for at least another season, despite the fact that the NFL will most likely come down with some sort of fine and/or suspension for his off-season, off-the-field indiscretions that landed him in jail just after the 2014 season ended.

Here is how Rob Demovsky reported the signing this morning.

Good move?

Bad move?

As was reported here last week, head coach Mike McCarthy and general manager Ted Thompson had been saying that they wanted to re-sign all of their free agent players, including Guion.

That’s the general company line, but the Packers have done a pretty good job of keeping their own this offseason.

Despite losing cornerbacks Tramon Williams and Davon House, the Packers have re-signed their top targets in Randall Cobb, Bryan BulagaDon Barclay and Scott Tolzien.

Now with Guion in the fold, the Packers may also be turning their mind’s eye and checkbook to fellow defensive lineman B.J. Raji – Demovsky also reported this morning that the Packers have a deal waiting on the table for Raji, a deal that’s said to be less than $2 million for a single season.

The bottom line here is whether the Packers can also re-sign Raji to help add even more depth at a position the team is surely to bolster when it comes to the draft.

If they sign both of these veterans it will most likely open the options for the team when it comes to the first couple of rounds in the draft.

If Guion and Raji are in-house for another year, Thompson may opt to look for defensive linemen later in the draft instead of trying to hit a home run with a pick in the first round.

But the real question, for me at least, is whether Guion’s signing and the potential of re-signing Raji are simply stop-gap measures.

The fact that Guion signed a single-year deal tells me the Packers are looking for him to have a “prove-it” season in 2015. If both Guion and Raji stay healthy and are productive, maybe they take a look at extensions.

Both of these players are question marks heading into the new season.

Raji’s health is a question mark, while Guion’s off-field shenanigans have got to have Packers fans and coaches on pins and needles.
