Super Bowl XLV was supposed to be just the first in a string of titles for the Packers, but that hasn’t materialized. The obvious question is: why?

I recently watched all the Packers games from the Super Bowl XLV postseason, and it got me thinking about how the team has changed since then.

From the team’s 53-man roster for Super Bowl XLV, there are just 11 players remaining—and that includes specialists Mason Crosby and Tim Masthay, as well as Morgan Burnett, who was on injured reserve for most of that season.

There’s also Charlie Peprah, of course, who is currently a scouting assistant.

The players remaining are Aaron Rodgers, James Starks, Jordy Nelson, Bryan Bulaga, T.J. Lang, Josh Sitton, Clay Matthews, Sam Shields, Morgan Burnett, Mason Crosby, Tim Masthay

From looking at that list, it’s notable that there is at least one veteran remaining for most position groups. The glaring exceptions are along the respective lines. There are three offensive linemen remaining from the 2010 team, but not a single defensive lineman.

In addition, there are no inside linebackers.

On the following pages we offer a position-by-position look at how the Packers have improved, declined, or stayed steady at each position since that magical playoff run. I’m looking mainly at the starters here.
