This past week, we here at Lombardiave.com were one of the first to break the story about the Chicago Bears Fan Facebook page that chastised Kaitlyn Collins, a Green Bay Packers cheerleader from Eagle River, Wisconsin, just down the road from where I live.

The story has gone national, as has her video response to the post.

Do a Google search and you will get more than 3,000,000 results. That’s pretty amazing.

If you want to like her Facebook page that fights cyberbullying click here …

She also states on her website that she’s off to New York City for interviews. This is turning into something global … more positive news from a bad, bad situation. Our congratulations to a woman who took the high road and the world took notice.

The site eventually took down the picture and the post of Collins, but insisted their post wasn’t cyberbullying.

Yeah, right.

And Jay Cutler isn’t a major disappointment.

I’ve always been supportive of the Packers cheerleaders, preferring them over the dancers that are claimed by the majority of NFL teams.

Here’s a post I did about it about a year ago and the video I put together honoring the Packers cheerleaders is below.

Editor’s update: The Facebook page administrator referenced in this story has taken down the photograph of the cheerleader mentioned below. In fact, the administrator offers this apology:

The picture of the Green Bay Cheerleader has been removed…

For everyone on this page. We do not condone or encourage bullying. We would like to ask that you keep it classy.

We understand you are hard core fans, but there’s no need for bullying. We apologize for any hard feelings and encourage everyone to keep this page as a fun experience.

Go Bears! Chicago Bears Fan

That’s fine, but the story below explains what occurred long before the apology … please read on.

Bullying in any form, be it face-to-face or online is simply wrong, but it seems that those who manage the Chicago Bears Fan Facebook page don’t care – after all, it was just a Green Bay Packers cheerleader they targeted Monday.

Kaitlyn Collins, was a member of the team of cheerleaders who worked the sidelines last season – a group of gals and guys from area colleges who are recruited to cheer for the Packers at their home games.

When you think about it, they are the only group of NFL “cheerleaders” who are really cheerleaders – the other teams recruit and hire dancers and models to represent their team and shake their assets.

In fact, I wrote a piece about the cheerleaders back in January which rings true, especially today …

The photo on the Bears Fan’s Facebook page included this caption: “Like if You Agree The Packers Have The Worst Cheerleaders In The NFL!”

As of 2:30 p.m.. Thursday, the photo had more than 3,400 likes and nearly 1,600 comments. While many of the comments were unprintable here, not all of them were so complimentary.

The Green Bay Packers’ cheerleaders are recruited from area colleges.
Raymond T. Rivard

And it hasn’t stopped Collins from fighting back. She has contacted the administrator of the page and asked that the page be taken down. She has contacted Facebook about the post, but it apparently doesn’t meet their criteria for bullying. There are many others who have also commented to the administrator of the page that it was the lowest of low postings and should be taken down.

As of 2:30 p.m. Thursday, the post was still on the page and near the top, as well.

Collins posted her own video, but has taken the high road. She doesn’t call the page administrators names, she only provides some of the comments that have been posted and again asks that they take down the post.

One of the comments says, “Doesn’t get uglier. Truly an eyesore.”

Other comments were too sexually explicit to include here.

We here at Lombardiave.com have said some things about the Chicago Bears football team, not about their fans or their cheerleaders. We feel this is just wrong and ask that you also tell them. Healthy banter about the rival football team is one thing, but when one has to stoop this low, that’s just plain wrong.

All we can say to the administrators of this site is to please take it down. It does no good for anyone.

Here is a tribute I put together last year to the cheerleaders of the Green Bay Packers …

OK, color me surprised – Darren Rovell of NBC’s SportsBiz, recently released his list of the NFL’s top 10 best cheerleading squads and nowhere on that list was the squad that works their butts off at every home Green Bay Packers game.

Check out Rovell’s list … it’s eye candy to the max.

But my argument is that these gals (no, I didn’t see a single dude) are not cheerleaders – they are dancers. No doubt they are skilled dancers. They can shake with the best of them and to watch their synchronization is well worth the time. Not only do these “cheerleaders” entertain the crowds across the league during halftimes, time outs, and probably before and after each game, but they have their own websites, swimsuit photo shoots, personal trainers and many other marketing ventures that make them well-known within their cities and football communities.

And to become a member of these groups is indeed a highly competitive venture. Have you ever seen the reruns of the programs about some of these units on the NFL Network? They are broadcast seemingly nonstop throughout the offseason when most dudes are back into baseball mode.

Anyway, my point here is that while this is a great list put together by Rovell, nowhere mentioned are the “real” cheerleaders that represent the Green Bay Packers.

We know why.

See the video slideshow after the jump and while you’re at it Like Lombardiave.com on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
