Donald Driver is expected to announce his retirement as early as this week. Greg Jennings will be seeking big money as a free agent in about a month or so and the Packers will have to make a decision about tight end Jermichael Finley and his $8 million salary long before the draft.

It’s possible the Packers will go into April’s draft without these three instrumental players in the fold. Does that mean the team’s brass turns their eyes to the receivers who will be available or do they continue the recent trend and go for either an offensive lineman or an impact defensive player when the team goes on the clock at the 2013 NFL Draft?

At today’s Senior Bowl set to start in just more than an hour – 3 p.m. CST – and broadcast live on the NFL Network, the Packers will no doubt have their eyes on the inside play of offensive and defensive linemen, but they might also have sets of eyes on the outside – taking a look at players like Louisiana Tech’s Quinton Patton, Oregon State’s Markus Wheaton, and Kansas State’s Chris Harper – all of these players stood out during practices this past week. Clearly, the Packers won’t be the only teams eyeing these players, but if the Packers are ready to move on with new targets for Aaron Rodgers, these might be the players they are targeting.

See video of these three receivers below.

All of them fit the mold from which the Packers like to build – small school players who can be picked up with mid- to late-round picks. Players who work hard to prove themselves and have a hunger to impress.

Today’s game will go a long way in turning heads and impressing scouts. That’s why these players understand the importance of the game and why NFL official pay close attention.

Today may be the start to changes in the Packers receiving corps. Like the Packers scouts, pay attention and see who catches your attention.

If you’re a Draft nut and really want the scoop on the up and coming players, there are a ton of sites out there that will give you information.

The folks over at fanspeak.com have provided us with a day-by-day view of rising and falling players that you may be interested in taking a peek at.

Here’s how the site promos its coverage: “Steve Shoup of Fanspeak.com was credentialed once again for this year’s Senior Bowl. Steve will be reporting on practice, the players, notes from the press conference, and – of course – the Senior Bowl game.”

I thought it interesting and they have given me permission to throw their links up for all our fans here at lombardiave.com.

Take a look … and you can also use this as a complementary guide and reference if you’ve been watching the coverage of the upcoming game over on the NFL Network.

Enjoy.
