No, it’s not Aaron Rodgers I’m talking about … it’s Rich Campbell, another quarterback who coaches thought had what it takes to succeed in the NFL.

They were wrong. He played four years in Green Bay. During that time, he completed 31 of 68 passes for 386 yards, three touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Today the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame’s Today in Packers History remembers Campbell as a first round draft pick in 1981 and his day of joining Packers from the 1960s at the Vince Lombardi Golf Tournament.

Their success unfortunately didn’t rub off on Campbell.

June 19, 1981 - Unnoticed as he arrives for a practice round in advance of the Vince Lombardi Memorial Golf Classic at North Hill Country Club, Packers first-round draft choice Rich Campbell becomes the center of attention once he’s introduced to those who played for the team during the 1960s. The quarterback from California is awed as he mingles with the likes of Jerry Kramer, Ron Kramer, Bob Skoronski, Dan Currie, Bob Long, Norm Masters and others. “I’m just happy to be invited to the Lombardi tournament,” Campbell says. “Of all the names that have gone through the annals of football, his name stands out above them all.”
