Herb Adderly: One of the best

Herb Adderly.

The name brings back memories – usually in black and white – of one of the greatest, if not THE greatest cornerback in Green Bay Packers history – Herb Adderly.

He played his greatest games with the Packers as part of the Vince Lombardi-led squads of the 1960s, though he also moved on to the Dallas Cowboys where he was also a Super Bowl champion.

But take a look here of some of the best photographs of Adderly during his days with the Packers.

Green Bay Packers and Pro Football Hall of Famer Herb Adderley has provided us with a collection of his photos. The collection offers a candid glimpse behind the scenes, from Adderley’s time as a star at Michigan State through his fantastic Green Bay Packers career.

Dick Evans Replaces Wayne Robinso
After Herb Adderley Complaints

April 14, 1970 - Packers coach Phil Bengtson announces that Dick Evans has joined the team as defensive secondary coach replacing Wayne Robinson, who had held that position for the previous two years. Robinson had come under scrutiny after cornerback Herb Adderley said he didn’t enjoy playing for him because of excessive criticism and lack of praise. “It (that situation) really had nothing to do with my thinking,” Bengtson says. “Wayne and his family wanted to go back to Houston, that’s all.” Evans had been a player (1940 and 1943) and scout (1969) for Green Bay and was a long-time assistant coach in both the college and NFL ranks prior to that.

The Green Bay Packers played against the Detroit Lions on October 6, 1957. The Packers lost 24 to 14, playing in front of 32, 120 fans. Seven Packers earn Pro Bowl selections

Greg Jennings, though injured, has been selected as a Pro Bowler this season.

Winning always brings post-season awards – a fact that led to seven Packers being named today to the 2011 Pro Bowl.

That’s the most Pro Bowlers from one Packers team selected to the Pro Bowl since 1967 … another not-too-shabby team from Green Bay.

In recognizing the seven players’ accomplishments, the Packers PR department released the following press release outlining each of the selections’ accomplishments in this season where the team now stands at 14-1 with one game left in the regular season.

With their win Sunday night against the Bears, the Packers secured home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
