I could never figure out why the NFL Network hired Michael Irvin as a commentator for its programming.

He talks like a hood; he looks like hoodlum; and we all know his past behavior is nothing short of criminal.

Today, any modicum of respect that I had for him (which was nil) was washed down his toilet like the turd he is.

He suggested in an interview today that the Lombardi Trophy should be named to include the hoodie man himself, Bill Belichick – or Bill Belicheat as many have come to know him.

Yes, he’s won a few Super Bowls and has been a perennial winner with the Patriots.

But to suggest that Patriots’ coach’s name be attached to the trophy that has become the highest symbol of excellence in all of sports is ridiculous, it’s stupid, and just plain idiotic.

Here’s what he had to say to the Boston Herald:

“I think the world of Belichick. I told him this, ‘Man, if it was up to me, that (Super Bowl) trophy would be called the Lombardi/Belichick.’ I don’t care what they think. It would be called the Lombardi/Belichick. That’s how good he is to do what he’s doing in this day and age, what the league is now. I would call it the Lombardi/Belichick.”

Obviously, the reaction was immediate and severe.

Aaron Rodgers has had to deal with the question for years and he’s certainly developed a solid answer to it.

When he sat down with Michael this week to shoot an NFL Network segment, Rodgers was asked the inevitable question.

Kareem Copeland of the Green Bay Press Gazette posted this snippet that’s scheduled to air Sunday on the NFL Network’s NFL Gameday Morning:
Michael Irvin: “Why is it that Brett Favre is making comments about Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers?”

Aaron Rodgers: “I think you need to have a sit-down with him and ask him that question. But I think the great thing about this team is it’s a group of individuals who came together collectively to accomplish an incredible goal. We don’t really have a lot of distractions, there are not a lot of people outside of the building whose opinions really factor into our daily football lives and that’s what’s keeping us focused on being the best each week.”

Irvin: “A reporter is going to ask you every moment he gets about Brett Favre. Do you feel like this is ever going to go away?”

Rodgers: “I don’t think so. On some level, you need to embrace the fact that you’re mentioned with a future Hall of Famer in the same sentence a lot. I’m always going to be the guy that followed him regardless of what happens. I’m hopeful that we can go down in a similar sense and way that Joe Montana and Steve Young are talked about. I’m hopeful that I’m going to have a long career here and opportunity to win a lot more championships.”

Way to go, Aaron!
