Ok, drum roll … yes, the 2013 Green Bay Packers schedule has finally been released.

After a day when everyone was scouring the Internet for leaks of the schedule, the NFL has finally let Commissioner Roger Goodell loose from his office with schedule in hand.

What we know is the Packers open with the ….. 49ers on the road and conclude the season by traveling to the Chicago Bears.

According to the Packer Report, the Packers’ 2013 foes went 136-119-1 last season (.533 winning percentage). 64-64 for Lambeau games and 72-55-1 on the road.

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

While the NFL 2013 regular season schedule won’t be announced until this evening, the top 13 games (why 13? I’m not sure – I guess because it’s 2013) were posted over at NFL.com yesterday – and included two of the Green Bay Packers matchups – two strangely against AFC North opponents.

At number 13 is the Packers matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Ohio and number 10 has the Packers versus the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lambeau Field.

Ok, so these are great games and should mightily test the Packers – as well as the Bengals and Steelers – but where are the matchups with the Minnesota Vikings, the team they met in the first round of the Playoffs last year – games that will feature Greg Jennings playing against his former teammates?

What about home games against the Atlanta Falcons? Or having to go up against both Super Bowl teams from last season, the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens – on the road?!? Now, those are two games the Packers Nation will have circled on their calendars.

And NFL.com’s #1 rated matchup for next season? The Indianapolis Colts hosting the Denver Broncos … zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Big deal. That doesn’t have any of the magic and intensity of say the Packers vs. Favre.

Anyway, you judge for yourself. Take a swing over to the site and scroll through their slide show.

When? That will be determined next Tuesday when the NFL regular season schedule is announced.
Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

If you don’t have Tuesday, April 16, circled on your calendar, you’re should – that’s the day when the National Football League will release its 2013 regular season schedule, which will include the schedule for the Green Bay Packers. Though the exact time for the announcement is not yet known, it’s usually mid- to late-afternoon when these types of things are released by the league.

As anticipated as Free Agency and the Draft to be held the week after the schedule comes out, the schedule release allows fans of all teams to really start feeling like it’s getting close to the start of the season.

When will the Packers host the Vikings at Lambeau Field?
Raymond T. Rivard photograph

Of course, we already know the home and away opponents the Packers will face next season, but we don’t know when the games will be played. That is the biggest part of the fun – who will the Packers face in the opener?; when will they face their divisional opponents?; and more importantly, who and where will the Packers be playing when the temperatures drop in December?

In addition to playing NFC North Division rivals Chicago, Detroit, and Minnesota home and away, the Packers will also host the Falcons, Browns, Eagles, Steelers and Redskins – what a great home schedule that is. All of these teams are sure to be much improved over last season with the Falcons and Redskins playoff teams in 2012. The Eagles, Browns and Steelers will bring a bit of old school NFL back to Lambeau.

The Green Bay Packers have signed Aaron Rodgers to a long-term contract and the team has the easiest schedule in the NFL in 2013 - April Fools!

While Rodgers is very, very close to signing – in fact, news today indicates the Packers and Rodgers were just $2 million apart in negotiations – it hasn’t happened yet.

And the Packers actually have the sixth toughest schedule in the league next year.

According to Ian Rappaport of nfl.com, the Packers are offering just a bit more than $21 million, while Rodgers’ camp is in the $23 million range. It’s not clear how long the deal will be struck for, but it appears, according to new details that the biggest hurdle is figuring out how much to pay Rodgers over the course of the first two years of the contract. According to Rodgers’ current deal, he is scheduled to make $19.75 million in 2013 and 2014. That’s grossly underpaid when comparing him to the other top 5 quarterbacks in the league.

The Packers, we’re sure, want to wrap this up as soon as possible so they can move on to getting linebacker Clay Matthews inked to a new deal. B.J. Raji could also be in the Packers targets for a new deal. According to Rappaport, once all three are signed, they could account for one-quarter of $1 billion … We wonder what Vince Lombardi would think of that.

Packers schedule

Though we might wish that the Green Bay Packers had the schedule of the Denver Broncos – they don’t.

The Broncos? The same powerhouse team that was one Joe Flacco bomb away from advancing to the AFC Championship game has the easiest schedule in the entire NFL? Say what?

The Broncos play teams next year with a combined win percentage of .430.

The team with the toughest schedule?

The Carolina Panthers.

And right behind them?

The Detroit Lions.

That’s right the 4-12 Detroit Lions play teams with a win percentage of .539.

As for the Packers, they’re not quite as bad, but they’re right up there. Green Bay has the sixth toughest schedule in 2013 facing teams with a win percentage of .533. In addition to playing the Lions, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears twice as division rivals, the Packers will also play teams from the NFC East (as will the other division teams) – Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, and Dallas Cowboys.

The NFL schedule is set to be released April 16. Stay tuned.

Update: There are many claiming that this leaked schedule is likely a fake - even the league has come out saying it’s “bogus.”

That’s why we add this Disclaimer: We at Lombardiave do not know if this is an official copy of the NFL’s 2012 schedule, or if the 2012 schedule has been completed. What we do know is that it is an interesting topic for the start of discussion and post this “leaked” copy for entertainment purposes only. The Preseason schedule was released earlier this week and it was expected the full regular season schedule wasn’t to be released until the end of this month.

Last night a “leaked” version of the 2012 NFL schedule found it’s way onto the Web through a website named EagleStats2012.com and has been posted during the early morning hours on a number of sites, including our partners across the fansided.com nation. Lombardiave was notified of the leaked schedule from an email sent to all fansided NFL sites by Kevin Mawyer II of the Washington Redskins’ fansided site, Riggo’s Rag.

If this schedule is indeed the official version, it shows the Green Bay Packers opening the 2012 season on the road on Monday Night, Sept. 10, at the Detroit Lions. Talk about going right into the Lions den – pardon the pun. The game would be the first of two played that first Monday night, with the second game of the traditional doubleheader being Tampa Bay at Oakland.

In all, the Packers will get extensive national exposure, according to this schedule. They would play several times at 3 p.m. (CST) with the first on Sept. 13 at the Texans, the second Oct. 7 versus the Cardinals; another at home versus the Bears Nov. 22; at the Giants Dec. 2; and at home versus the 49ers Dec. 9.

In addition to the Monday Night opener, the Packers would also play the Saints at home on Sunday Night, Oct. 14, and follow that up with a Thursday Night, Oct. 18, game versus the Vikings. Then on Nov. 19, the Packers would play again on Monday night versus the Rams.

That’s a pretty brutal lineup of games, but that’s what happens when you’re the best of the best.

The Packers would have their bye Oct. 28.
