Don’t get me wrong, there were great players on these teams, but too many marginal players that made these Forrest Gregg-coached teams mediocre at best.

Zorn played in 13 games for Green Bay in 1985 and finished second to Lynn Dickey with 794 passing yards.

April 8, 1962 - ”We truly understand this great challenge to repeat as champions. If this team is willing to sacrifice as much as it did last year, we will be ready to accept that challenge.” Though training camp is months away, Vince Lombardi appears ready for his team to begin defense of its 1961 NFL title as evidenced by his speech to more than 200 at the Eagles Club in Milwaukee. Lombardi also states he believes the team has had a fine draft and that first-round pick, Earl Gros, will be “the fastest back I’ve had in Green Bay.”

April 4, 1963 - Ray Nitschke, voted the outstanding player in the 1962 NFL championship game, is presented with a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette by Sport Magazine in New York City. The rugged linebacker recovered two fumbles, one of which led to a touchdown, as the Packers beat the New York Giants 16-7 in the title game played Dec. 30, 1962. Nitschke also deflected a pass that teammate Dan Currie intercepted to end an early Giants’ threat.
Photo of Ray Nitschke
