Prospect Film Study: ILB Stephone Anthony a fit in Green Bay?
By Dan Dahlke
Getting off blocks
Going back to the Florida State game, this next play is not only another example of Anthony’s knack for diagnosing plays, but it also demonstrates his ability to shed blocks and make contact with the back at the line.
Anthony sidesteps the center to meet the back at the line. This is a part of his game that makes him stand out among the other linebackers in this draft.
He can either take on blocks or get around offensive linemen and still plug the holes in the middle.
It’s important as an inside linebacker, especially in a 3-4 defense, to take on blocks and not give ground.
Anthony can do this.
He has the strength to hold up well against blocks and is rarely pushed out of place, but he also has the shiftiness to get around blocks when he needs to.
Shedding blocks is far from the best part of Anthony’s game, however. He also has incredible burst and anticipation against the run.
