Packers Free Agency: Is adding a running back beyond the realms of possibility?
2. Rex Burkhead, New England Patriots
Rex Burkhead’s statistics may not jump off the chart, but his ability to do a little bit of everything makes him extremely valuable.
The 27-year-old running back only played in 10 regular season games after dealing with a rib injury earlier in the year and than suffering a knee sprain in December.

Despite his lack of play, he was a touchdown machine for the New England Patriots, which featured a crowded backfield.
He finished the regular season with eight total touchdowns, tied for second-most on the team with Rob Gronkowski. He scored at least one rushing touchdown in four straight games (Weeks 12-15).
Burkhead compiled 264 yards and five touchdowns on the ground and caught 30 passes for 254 yards and three scores.
His versatility would make him an excellent fit in Green Bay.
Not only can he be an effective option in the red zone catching or running the ball, but he can be used on special teams as well. Last season, Burkhead blocked a punt on the road against the Denver Broncos.
In addition Burkhead is an excellent blocker, something the Packers’ current unit struggled with.
According to Spotrac, Burkhead’s market value is $3.3 million a season, making him an affordable option for the Packers.
