Packers: 12 steps towards fixing the team’s biggest problems
By Evan Siegel
7. Cut several veterans
Tramon Williams, Jason Spriggs, and Kyler Fackrell need to be sent packing. Williams simply cannot keep up with the league’s faster receivers anymore, and Spriggs and Fackrell are two of Ted Thompson‘s worst draft choices. The Packers need to clear some cap space in order to bring in several tier one free agents to build this roster back up to a championship level.
Cutting Williams, Spriggs, and Fackrell will net the Packers almost $5 million in cap space, giving them room to add another impact player on defense. Losing these three players will not make the defense any worse, as they are easily replaceable and in the case of Spriggs and Fackrell have been awful pros to say the least.
8. Hire a new offensive coordinator
Joe Philbin is not the answer that this offense needs. The team is desperate for an innovative mind that can get the offense out of the 80s and into the modern era.
Mike McCarthy and his offense struggled mightily against the 29th ranked defense in the NFL on Monday Night Football despite having Aaron Rodgers at quarterback and being in an era where every single rule is rigged to help the offense.
One name that comes to mind is Chris Petersen, the head coach at the University of Washington. Petersen is known for his passing game prowess and creativity as a whole on offense. Imagine what Petersen could do with Rodgers.
