Add an edge rusher early in the draft

Last year the Packers desperately needed help at cornerback. Despite that, Gutekunst was still willing to trade away a starter at the position, Damarious Randall. That shows he’s willing to move on from a player even if it’s at a position of a need (which could be the case again this year if he releases Perry).

Gutekunst then spent his top two picks on the cornerback position, bringing in Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson.

He could do the same at edge rusher. The Packers pick twice in the opening round, and also have six picks inside the top 112 overall. There will be many opportunities in those early rounds to add a couple of edge rushers.

The luxury of having 10 selections, including two in the first round, is that even if the Packers don’t use the 12th overall pick on an edge rusher, they’ll still have an opportunity do so later on Day 1. And with a lot of picks to work with, Gutekunst could even look to trade up from No. 30 overall.

To improve the pass rush the Packers need to be aggressive in free agency and be willing to use a couple of early picks. By doing so and moving on from Perry and Matthews, Green Bay can successfully fix its number one need this offseason.
