10. Robert Tonyan, Tight End

There is always uncertainty when a new coach comes in, but it quickly became clear that Matt LaFleur liked Robert Tonyan‘s potential as the Packers decided to bring him back for 2019 with the exclusive rights tender this offseason.

Tonyan’s opportunities on offense were few and far between last season, but he did make the most of them with a 54-touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks, which was easily one of the Packers’ best plays of the 2018 season.

Packers tight ends coach Justin Outten had high praise for Tonyan:

“The video was minimal, but you got to see flashes of some things that got you excited,” Outten said, according to Wes Hodkiewicz of Packers.com.

The question now is whether the Packers believe Tonyan can turn those “flashes” of potential into consistent production on the field. They’ll need to decide how many tight ends they should keep on the roster — as well as Tonyan, the Packers currently have Jimmy Graham, Marcedes Lewis, rookie Jace Sternberger, Pharoah McKever and Evan Baylis on the roster.

That’s not an easy decision. Tonyan will need to force the Packers to keep him on the 53-man roster, and he can do that by continuing to impress once training camp begins.
