Power ranking the Packers’ running backs ahead of training camp
1. Aaron Jones
An X-Factor for the Green Bay Packers offense and a player defenses fear, Aaron Jones can swing the game in favor of the Packers on a single play, and that’s why he will play such an important role in Matt LaFleur’s offense in 2019.
His acceleration, vision and ability to turn a minimal gain into a long touchdown makes Jones such an exciting player to watch, and so tough to defend.
Having started 12 of the 24 games he’s played since 2017, Jones has 1,176 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns at an impressive career average of 5.5 yards per carry, the same category he led the league in last season.
Jones is yet to make a significant impact as a receiver for the Packers, although he did set a career-best with 206 yards and a touchdown last season. And with 632 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his final three seasons at UTEP, he can certainly take on a bigger role as a pass catcher in LaFleur’s offense.
Perhaps the only thing that can prevent Jones from having a huge season is an injury. Having missed six games due to knee injuries over the past two seasons, it’s certainly a cause for concern. But if Jones can stay healthy, he could dominate in LaFleur’s offense.
In a featured role, Jones could be one of the league’s top-10 running backs in 2019.
