Five Packers to watch vs. Raiders in Week 7 matchup
By Jesse Fry
5. Marquez Valdes-Scantling
Note: MVS has missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday due to ankle and knee injuries. In this article, we’ll assume he’ll be ready to go.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling was on every person’s players to watch list. A candidate to break out after showing promise in his rookie year. That has yet to happen.
He has made some plays on deep passes but has not shown to be the player everyone was bragging about coming into the season.
Like Allen Lazard, MVS has a golden opportunity. Unlike Lazard, MVS has already had a full season to show what he can do.
Patience should be practiced when dealing with young receivers, but the Packers need him to produce now. The two most experienced receivers might be down and Jimmy Graham has yet to pull through on the promise of the old Graham. Now is the time for him to show he is more than an occasional deep threat.
The Packers got the fast start they have been longing for. They are now about to enter a very tough part of their schedule with three straight AFC West opponents. After this week against the Raiders, the Packers hit the road for two straight. They need to take advantage of their home field and come home with a win against these Raiders.
