4. Allen Lazard

Allen Lazard has made a great case for more playing time even after Adams returns. Against Detroit, he was the difference between winning and losing. Against Kansas City, he was Rodgers’ go-to guy of the wide receivers.

Lazard’s numbers weren’t great (five catches for 42 yards), but he was there where Rodgers needed him to be and is showing a good connection with the two-time MVP.

What really stands out to me is Lazard’s physicality. He isn’t afraid to meet a defender head on and is a strong blocker. On Jones’ first touchdown, Lazard manhandled his guy and made a wall for Jones to get into the end zone.

Lazard is proving to be another undrafted gem the Packers unearthed. I feel he is still yet to make his biggest contribution. When Adams returns, the focus on defense will shift to him in the passing game. That will allow Lazard to do some work against second, third or even fourth corners of the other team. Not many teams have the depth to go against a receiver standing six-foot-five. Let alone two of them with Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Injuries are never a good thing. Losing a key player could cripple a team and ruin a season. The Packers may have gotten a blessing in disguise with Adams’ injury. It has forced the Packers to lean on the run game more, and they may have just uncovered a receiver they might have otherwise not. Adams is close, and this team will get more dangerous with his return.
