Round 3 (90): Troy Dye, LB, Oregon

Here is the third-round pick received from the Texans in the earlier trade. The Packers use it to strengthen another position of need, this time at inside linebacker.

Green Bay didn’t re-sign Blake Martinez or B.J. Goodson in free agency. Martinez was a starter for four years in the Packers defense and needs to be replaced.

Even after signing Christian Kirksey last month, the Packers should look to add another inside linebacker at some point in the draft, ideally in the earlier rounds. And that’s what they could do here, by selecting Oregon’s Troy Dye.

The Packers need a starting linebacker who can make an impact on all three downs, which NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein believes he can become in the NFL:

"“He has three-down talent with the aptitude to cover or blitz and is in line to go from plus-backup to eventual starter if he can keep good weight on his frame.”"

Dye spent the past four seasons with the Ducks. In that time, he made 398 tackles, 15 sacks, four forced fumbles, five interceptions, and 15 pass defenses.

After fixing the wide receiver position with their top two picks, the Packers can turn to defense in the third round and add another inside linebacker.
