Packers four-round mock draft: Biggest needs fixed after trade
Round 3 (83): Troy Dye, LB, Oregon
Signing Christian Kirksey to replace Blake Martinez was a solid start to free agency, but when you consider Kirksey’s injury history over the past two years, it’s clear the Packers need to draft another player at the middle linebacker position.
Oregon’s Troy Dye would be a good addition in the third round. Jacob Infante of Draft Wire wrote that Dye has “three-down potential at the next level” with some development.
Last season, he made 84 tackles, 9.5 for loss, 2.5 sacks and two interceptions. With Kirksey the main starter at the position, Dye would be able to develop as he initially provides important depth in the middle of Mike Pettine’s defense.
Round 3 (94): Ben Bartch, OT, St. John’s
Ricky Wagner was signed to start at right tackle for at least this upcoming season, but the Packers need a long-term plan at the position with Bryan Bulaga now gone. Ben Bartch might not be ready to start at tackle right away, but with some development, he could become a longtime starter on the right side of the offensive line.
Round 4 (136): Darrynton Evans, RB, Appalachian State
This might seem a little early for the Packers to draft a running back but Darrynton Evans could be worth it. He’s elusive, has good vision and is capable of taking any carry all the way for a touchdown. In his final year at Appalachian State, Evans averaged 5.8 yards per carry, rushing for 1,480 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also offers some pass-catching ability with five receiving touchdowns in 2019.
Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are both free agents next offseason. Re-signing both will be tough. In the meantime, the Packers need more depth in the backfield. Evans could be a steal in the fourth round.
