Chris Jones – DL

Due to the Packers’ salary cap situation, we can almost certainly forget about this becoming a reality. However, that’s why this would be a “dream trade”.

Chris Jones was franchised tagged by the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason. According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Jones wants $21 million per year. Considering the Chiefs just handed Patrick Mahomes a 10-year deal worth something like $1 billion (OK — maybe a little less), re-signing Jones long-term might be difficult. Even then, a trade would take some serious work to the salary cap for the Packers to make a move, but let’s focus on the football for a moment.

With a major need along the defensive line, adding Chris Jones would be a huge move for the Packers.

Jones is an All-Pro and Pro Bowl defensive tackle and has an incredible 31 sacks and 62 quarterback hits over the past three seasons, along with seven forced fumbles, two interceptions, and even a defensive touchdown.

Pair Jones with Kenny Clark and suddenly the Packers’ defensive line would be up there with the league’s best, dominant against the run but also unstoppable at rushing the passer from the inside. And with the Smith Bros. causing problems on the outside, good luck for opposing offensive lines.
