Wide receivers

Davante Adams and Allen Lazard

I expect the Packers to start the game in a two-tight end set, aiming to run the football and throw off of play-action. We’ll come onto the tight ends in a moment, but that means they’ll have two wide receivers on the field. Pro Bowl receiver Davante Adams will be one of them; that’s the easy part. What’s tougher to predict is who will be the starter opposite Adams.

It likely comes down to Allen Lazard and new addition Devin Funchess. I have the Packers going with Lazard, who has already built a connection with Aaron Rodgers on the field and gets the start ahead of Funchess.

Tight ends

Jace Sternberger and Marcedes Lewis

With this offense wanting to run the football, we could see a lot of Marcedes Lewis, whose number one role is to block. Rookie Josiah Deguara could also get on the field early on. Lewis will be one of the starters at tight end, providing experience and excellent blocking ability, while also giving Rodgers another target in the receiving game.

With the Packers moving on from Jimmy Graham, it’s Jace Sternberger’s time to step up and prove himself as a dependable receiver who can start for the Packers. It’s his job to lose.
