The Green Bay Packers don’t just face an uncertain future with their future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but also their All-Pro wide receiver.

Davante Adams‘ contract will expire at the end of the upcoming season, meaning the Packers only have one year remaining with their star receiver.

However, unsurprisingly, the Packers aim to ensure Adams is part of their plans for far longer than that.

As tweeted here by FanSided’s Joe Kipp, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Packers and Adams are expected to work on a “massive” contract extension.

And understandably so.

Adams is the best wide receiver the Packers have had in the Aaron Rodgers era, and that says a lot given the incredible receiving talent this team has had from Jordy Nelson to Greg Jennings to Randall Cobb to James Jones.

Adams is also coming off a career year. He was named a first-team All-Pro for the first time after catching 115 passes for 1,374 yards and a league-high 18 touchdowns. With his release and route-running, cornerbacks couldn’t cover him. And that was perfect for Aaron Rodgers, who rarely missed on his way to a third NFL MVP award.

Whether Rodgers is throwing passes Adams’ way this year or in the future, or whether it’s time for Jordan Love, it doesn’t change the fact that Adams is one of the league’s very best. No matter who is throwing the football, Adams will make any quarterback’s life easier and it’s no surprise the Packers want to ensure he’s on the roster beyond 2021.

We’ll see if they can work out a deal over the summer, but the Packers have a good track record of getting their star players signed to new deals well ahead of their current deal expiring. We saw something similar with David Bakhtiari and Kenny Clark last year.

Hopefully, the Packers and Adams will come to an agreement soon.
