Josiah Deguara
Josiah Deguara entered the summer with a huge opportunity. The Packers’ offense faced uncertainty at tight end with Robert Tonyan still recovering from injury, while there have also been a lot of changes made at wide receiver.
To this point, it’s unclear whether Deguara has been able to make much of an impact at practice.
That’s not to say he hasn’t been quietly doing his job. It’s also important to note that Deguara is asked to do a lot in the offense, so he won’t necessarily always make highlight-reel plays as a receiver.
However, if Robert Tonyan misses the start of the season, which tight end will be able to step up in the receiving game? Has Deguara shown he is ready for that role? I’m not so sure.
The preseason is going to be important for him. With Tonyan still out, there will be plenty of snaps for Deguara. We can assume veteran Marcedes Lewis won’t play many snaps in the exhibition games.
That leaves a huge opportunity for Deguara, but also backup tight ends Tyler Davis and Dominique Dafney.
If the season started today, Deguara would likely be a starter on offense. However, we haven’t heard much yet about whether his game has improved in year three.
