Packers safety stole the show at minicamp, and it's not who you think

The Green Bay Packers invested heavily at the safety position this offseason.

After letting Darnell Savage, Jonathan Owens, and Rudy Ford depart in free agency, the Packers needed to replace their top three safeties in terms of snaps from last season.

They spent big to sign Xavier McKinney before drafting three players at the position: Javon Bullard, Evan Williams, and Kitan Oladapo.

While there's good reason to get excited about the Packers' new additions at safety, none of the above took the headlines at the start of training camp. Zayne Anderson has a point to prove and aims to ensure he isn't left off the 53-man roster, no matter how many new safeties have joined the roster. And he has made the perfect start to minicamp.

Zayne Anderson dominates at Packers minicamp to strengthen chances of making roster

By no fault of his own, Anderson has been the forgotten player in Green Bay's secondary. He missed seven games due to injury last season but played an important role on special teams when healthy. With McKinney and three rookies joining second-year Anthony Johnson Jr. on the roster, Anderson knows he needs to step up this summer.

He couldn't have dreamt of a better start to minicamp. Per The Athletic's Matt Schneidman, Anderson intercepted Packers quarterback Sean Clifford three times during Tuesday's practice. That's one way to earn the coaches' attention.

"Any time you come out with one pick, let alone three, I'd say that's a good day," said head coach Matt LaFleur, via The Leap's Jason B. Hirschhorn.

There's a long way to go for Anderson. He must continue to prove his versatility by contributing on special teams and making plays on defense. It will likely take both to earn a spot on the 53 in a crowded safety room.

It's only one practice, but consistently making game-changing plays will give the Packers no choice but to make room for him.
