Greg Jennings Gets Paid

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

Earlier when I posted that star wide receiver Greg Jennings had his contract extended through 2012, the exact details of Jennings’ contract weren’t known.  Now they are, and Jennings made out.  In his contract, Jennings can earn $26.35 million or basically a little under $9 million a year.
As part of the extension, Jennings was given $16.25 million in guaranteed money, including an $11.25 million signing bonus, which he received immediately. In addition, his 2009 base salary of $5 million is guaranteed.
Jennings base salaries for the next four years:
2009: $5 million
2010: $1.85 million
2011: $2.7 million
2012: $3.885 million
Signing bonus: $11.25 million
For a [...]

Brett Favre Has Much In Common With Michael Jackson

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Brett Favre | COMMENTS: 22 Comments

Who was Michael Jackson writing all those songs for during his career? Some lucky lady?
No.
Brett Favre.
I was doing some investigating for a Jackson tribute post comparing Jackson’s song titles to players and teams in the NFL. For example, the song “Bad” was matched up with the Detroit Lions because the Lions were, well, bad (“horrendous” is my word choice, but MJ doesn’t have a song called “Horrendous”). Favre was on that list in it’s infancy under the song “Circus Girl” (more on that later). I was looking for more songs. And every song I looked [...]

Jennings Signed Through 2012

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Packers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Some Packers fans might say that Ted Thompson finally has done something right.
The Packers have reportedly signed star wide receiver Greg Jennings to a three-year contract extension through the 2012 season.  Jennings’ current rookie contract was set to expire after the 2009 season, making his re-signing a priority to the offense.  Although the details aren’t out there in the clear, Greg A. Bedard reported that it will pay Jennings upwards of $8 million per year, making him the second-highest paid player on the team behind quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
“I’m grateful and I understand that I’m blessed,” Jennings said today. “Just to [...]

Favre Tries Not To Say Anything, Says He’s Playing For The Vikings

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Brett Favre | COMMENTS: 13 Comments

In today’s media, when someone is interviewed, they attempt to skirt the questions and make themselves sound ridiculously vague and confuse the public.  Often times they just end up trapping themselves and giving away what they don’t want to give away.  This happened to former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets, and future Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre last night during his interview with Joe Buck on HBO’s “Joe Buck Live.”  A full transcript of the interview is available here, and there is video posted on The Viking Age here.
After a monologue by Buck and some small-talk between the [...]

Favre Circus Heads To Television

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Brett Favre, Minnesota Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Tonight embattled quarterback Brett Favre will appear on broadcaster Joe Buck’s HBO show, “Joe Buck Live.”  The absurdity of this whole situation will be highlighted on cable TV.  (JSOnline’s Lori Nickel will be doing a live blog starting at 9 PM ET for all of you deprived of HBO.)
ESPN’s Kevin Seifert has his five questions he would ask Favre at the interview.  The highlight (or the “bomb” question as we like to call it):
A conspiracy theorist could conclude you’re at the end of a remarkable manipulation to get from Green Bay to Minnesota against the Packers’ wishes and despite a [...]

Jeremy Thompson Continues Upward Rise

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Packers fourth-round draft pick from 2008, Jeremy Thompson, is continuing his rise up the Packers defensive depth chart, not just taking advantage of the injuries to 2009 first-round pick Clay Matthews, but also taking advantage of a new workout regimen he started after he found out he would have to play linebacker in the 3-4 defense.
Thompson is a big man at 6-4, 270, good size for the outside linebacker position.  The only problem for him was that his speed wasn’t up to par with what the position requires.  So he changed his workout pattern:
This offseason, Thompson changed his workout [...]

Lions Looking Up

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Detroit Lions, NFC North | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Detroit Lions are looking up for the 2009 NFL season. Or at least their players are saying they are. At least two players have blogged that the Lions are looking like playoff contenders for the 2009 season. Before I get to the absurdity of this, let’s look at the proof.
First, in early May, running back Kevin Smith wrote that the Lions will be in the playoffs. Wow.
I won’t make a prediction about how many games we’re going to win, but I will say this: We will definitely make the playoffs this season.
Believe it or not [...]

McCarthy Ranked 16th By Ex-Scouts

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: NFC North | COMMENTS: None Yet

A collection of ex-scouts has ranked the coaches in the NFL 1-32, with Green Bay’s own Mike McCarthy in the middle of the pack at No. 16.  What the report had to say about McCarthy:
“He has the necessary belief in his team to make bold changes and make them pay off. Last year, he dumped Brett Favre for Aaron Rodgers. This season, he moves his defense to a 3-4 scheme. He always is looking for ways to make the team better.”
If the Packers had not finished 6-10 last year, McCarthy would be a top 10 coach.  The team would also [...]
