It was announced today that Clay Matthews III, the Packers outside linebacker extraordinaire, has been selected as the cover boy for the Sports Illustrated regional NFL Preview issue. As the national magazine releases its annual preview, Matthews and the Packers prepare to take on the New Orleans Saints next Thursday in the match-up of the past two Super Bowl winners at historic Lambeau Field. Sean Payton, who will bring his New Orleans Saints to Green Bay in just about eight days, had some interesting comments about the new kick off rule.  Interviewed on pro Football Talk Live tonight, Payton, whose team won the Super Bowl because of his gutsy call on the second half opening kick-off, said the NFL is just a step away from outright banning the play. OK, I admit it – I’m not a gamer – never have been, probably never will be.  So if I’ve offended you already – sorry about that.  Maybe it’s because all three of my children are girls and while many of you were joining Little League and throwing the football around the yard, I was playing Barbie and dreaming of ponies.

The second round and the final two players were released this afternoon by the Green Bay Packers. Again, no surprises with this announcement as the Packers prepare for the fourth and final preseason game Thursday night against the Kansas City Chiefs at Lambeau Field. In making the announcement, the Packers public relations department sent the following release: The Green Bay Packers released second-year LB K.C. Asiodu and first-year G Adrian Battles. The transactions were announced Tuesday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson. As stated in the previous post, the Packers will release three players today … the first has come down the pike, and as expected it’s not a huge surprise. The Packers just released the information – it’s as follows: The Green Bay Packers released first-year WR Antonio Robinson. The transaction was announced Tuesday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson. Today the Packers must reduce its roster from the current 83 players to 80, meaning that three more players are set to be released by mid-afternoon today, Tuesday, Aug. Aug. Most likely, the three to be let go won’t be huge surprises, but then again I always say this is the NFL, so every day is a surprise.
