I would be surprised if the Packers take an interior offensive lineman in the first round. Starting-caliber centers and guards can be found later in the draft; however, if the Packers don’t re-sign Evan Dietrich-Smith, then center will become one of their biggest needs heading into the 2014 season.

Green Bay will still have 2013 fourth-round pick J.C. Tretter on the roster. Tretter is working on transitioning from college tackle to NFL center/guard, but Green Bay may look for a player with experience playing center.

Swanson is by far the top center in this year’s draft class. He’s the only one worth an early round draft pick and will most likely start immediately for whomever drafts him. The Packers couldn’t go wrong drafting Swanson in the late first round if EDS seeks greener pastures after this season.
