‘Hello, Brett Favre? Mark – Mark Murphy here’

When will Brett Favre make his way back to Lambeau?

Unless you’ve been living in a cave outside Kiln, Miss., you have heard Green Bay Packers President Mark Murphy say that he’s had discussions with Brett Favre, the former Packer who is either loved or hated in Packers Nation.

I’ve never been shy about explaining how I feel on this issue – the Packers can’t bring him back to Lombardiave any faster.

So, to me, this news of conversations between the Packers president and the former quarterback is surely a great sign and just one more reason to believe that he will very soon be brought back to have his number 4 retired.

So, with that said, here is how I imagine how one of those conversations have gone:

How can I help?MM: Well, you can help by getting your butt on a plane and flying up here so we can have that party that we want to have for you.BF: What party is that, Mark?MM: You know, Brett. We really want to get you back here so we can retire your number and get you back in the fold.BF: Well, I know what you mean, Mark, but you know it’s not been that long since I was last at Lambeau. I think my ears are still ringing from the booing …MM: Ahahahahhahahahaha … you’re right, Brett. The fans really gave it to you.BF: Gave it to me? Yeah, you could say that. But you know what? That’s why I love that place. The fans are the reason it always made it special. Passionate … intense … knowledgeable. I really loved it.MM: We know, Brett. That’s why we want you back … well, at least most Packers fans want you back.BF: You’ll have to make sure that those haters don’t get in the stadium when we do it.MM: I don’t think we have to worry about that.BF: I’ve read about some of the things you’ve said the past few months. I appreciate it all … BTW, what did you think of Aaron and me at the NFL Honors Awards? That was pretty cool, wasn’t it?MM: Very cool. I had a smile on my face the whole time.BF: Me too.MM: But seriously, Brett. What do you think? When can we do this?BF: I’m up to it. Anytime.MM: Would you want to do it when the Vikings come to town?BF: Awkward.MM: Good, especially with Jennings over there now.BF: Yeah, I know what you mean. I guess those phone calls to Greg when he was deciding didn’t look good, did they?MM: No, Brett, they didn’t … If you ever come back for a party here, you are going to have to leave your phone at home, if you know what I mean.BF: Ahahahahahahaha. Yeah.MM: And you can’t even come close to announcing a comeback …BF: Baahahahahhahaha. Ok.MM: So, get on the plane, will ya?BF: I’ll see what Deanna and the kids are doing.MM: You do that. We’ll be waiting.BF: Ok, Mark. Hey, how’s your golf game?MM: Get up here and I’ll kick your ass.BF: I don’t think so …MM: OK, Brett. Stay in touch.BF: I will."
