Training camp for the Green Bay Packers starts July 25.

Now that we’ve all flipped our calendars from June, the month of the NFL walking dead, to July – when we can count the days until the start of the Green Bay Packers training camp – let’s rejoice.

Yes, mark July 25 on your calendar – that’s the day that both veterans and rookies report to Green Bay for the start of the 2013 camp. We’ve got so much to look forward to – here are just a few:

• The chance to see the running back competition explode – and the chance to watch both rookie running backs – Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin. But what about a guy like Angelo Pease, the undrafted rookie that coach Mike McCarthy was so high on in May? Will he have a shot? I don’t know about you, but my eyes will be glued to the offensive backfield throughout camp.

• The chance to see just what first round draft pick, Datone Jones, brings to the table – that is if the Packers get him to sign on the bottom line.

• Watching to see how second-year linebacker Nick Perry is progressing after coming off season-ending wrist and knee injuries. Adding to that – it will be interesting to see how Derek Sherrod is progressing … will he ever make it back on the field?

• Anticipating how the coaching staff develops the defensive schemes in an effort to combat the read-option. That should be the number one goal this season defensively … not only stopping the read-option, but stopping the run. Remember, there’s a guy in the division by the name of Adrian Peterson. The Packers have to find a way to contain him.

So there’s so much to look forward to. These are just some of the areas where folks will be watching.
