From A Green Bay Packers Fan’s Viewpoint!

facebooktwitterreddit

As I have said many times in the past, I am a Green Bay Packers fan first and writing comes somewhere down the line.  Never one to be big on the Xs and Os of the game or the breakdown of players, I have always followed my heart and emotions when it comes to game time.

Yes I will be lining up with the guys this Sunday!

The matchup with the Washington Redskins has me on an emotional rollercoaster.  First and foremost, is the fact that a loss will put us two games down in the standings.  Now does that mean the season is over with?  No.  But it does make a run to the playoffs more difficult and puts added pressure on the remaining fourteen games.  Pressure that I don’t know how the Packers would relate to.  Would it solidify their intestinal fortitude and power them forward or would it deflate them and cracks in the Green and Gold armour would start to become more visible and the finger-pointing would begin and the locker room would be divided?

How secure is this locker room?  That is a question that hopefully will not be tested after Sunday’s game.

Secondly, how much longer can we continue to masquerade Dom Capers as a defensive coordinator?  He has proven with the last two defeats against the Niners as well as the gashing by Adrian Peterson and the Vikings that he lacks the ability to properly devise a defensive game plan, let alone make the necessary adjustments during the game to stop the bleeding.

Defense wins championships and with Capers running the defense, I don’t see that happening.  We finished 11th in defense last year, which in my opinion does not represent how poorly the defense played.  We could not tackle, we could not get any pressure on the opposing quarterback and we had no answer to how to stop a team from running or throwing against us.

I don’t want to hear about injuries or the next guy up, I want to see a defensive unit that can play, adapt and instill fear on the other side of the line.  Anything less is a pile of cow chips.  This team needs to solve its defensive woes or Dom Capers needs to be collecting unemployment after Sunday!

The last time the Pack played in Seattle, all we heard about was how difficult an environment it was to play there (not counting the refs).  So with the completion of the South and North end zones, will the newly enclosed Lambeau Field offer the same deafening terror that we see in She-hawk country or will the fans be sitting on their hands because the new NFL rules prohibit seat cushions?  Am I calling the fans out?  Yes I am.  Last season your spirit and integrity was questioned, what are you going to do about it?

Will an enclosed Lambeau Field create an environment of terror?

I know from taking the Lambeau Field Tour that the echo that reverberates from the South End Zone is amazing and that when utilized will make life difficult for opposing teams.  Yet will the fans relish the ability to create such an environement or has it become more important to be seen at the game than heard?

Finally, and I know this takes me onto thin ice with some, but I don’t believe in being politically correct or bowing to any one group.  But for those who are so against the “Redskins” nickname.  GET OVER IT!  Each day I find something that offends me, bothers me or just is plain stupid.  I ignore it and move on.

A logo, nothing more and nothing less! Get over it.

The name was never meant to become a political talking point.  Yes, historically the name conjours up steteotypes that have been fed to us since the days of Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels (The original Lone Ranger and Tonto).  So what!  Instead of protesting and being irritating take the time to instead teach the history of Native Americans and the positive influences they have provided to our society.  Talk about the history of the Washington Redskins and why the name was chosen, what its significance was and what good it can bring to society today.

Stop harping about the negative aspects.  I along with many others could care less if your feelings are hurt.  This is a game.  Seriously, maybe some people find the word “Packers” offensive, I mean there could be certain conotations associated with the word that could be considered offensive or disparaging towards a sepcific segiment of our society.  Get over the hurt feelings and move on.

So Sunday at Noon, when the REDSKINS and the PACKERS faceoff, who cares about stats, colors, social commentary and all that bunk.  Throw on your face paint (Green and Gold or Red), grab a jersey and let it all hang out cause it is the home opener and anything less than a victory will of course bring about the end of civilization as we know it.

GO PACK GO!
