Citizen GM takes aim at Davon House

When I sat down to fire someone last week, it was very nearly Jerron McMillian. It was a coin toss between the two, Newhouse and McMillian. It’s really too bad that Newhouse was as terrible as he was or … I’d be looking like a genius right now.
For those who do not know, Jerron McMillian was let go this week to make room for RB Khalil Bell. A wise move to bulk up the running back position but let’s face it: the Packers were itching to get rid of underperforming McMillian.
That saves me a pink slip. But reinforces that I am on the right track. So, let’s keep the changes coming, shall we?
Dear Davon House,
I have really been rooting for you since being selected with the 131st overall pick in 2011; a fourth round selection that was really supposed to help bolster a defense coming off of an injury prone Super Bowl season.

You have shown flashes of the guy that we selected with that fourth round pick — flashes of brilliance and potential. But, for the most part, it’s been a flash(back) to the guy that we saw in the preseason games this year. You were consistently beat for big gains. Consistently. You were graded as one of the worst cornerbacks in the NFL and that is really bad; there are guys playing cornerback in the NFL that are complete unknowns. I don’t even know their names. They were graded better than you.
I’m upset by this and I feel like the Packers deserve better.
So far this season, you’ve been a dud. I saw the game against the Giants and WOW! you were bad. There was this one play in the end zone, might have been Hakeem Nicks, I don’t even know, but you didn’t even put up so much as a struggle. It looked like the easiest touchdown scored … like ever. Those types of plays have been happening a lot lately, don’t you think? You couldn’t have reached a hand up? Maybe … left the ground a little? I was hoping you might just turn your head around or something. None of that happened.
You have been doing something very well, though. You’ve been escorting players to the sideline and the end zone rather well. I wish you were doing that WITHOUT them having secured the ball, but … maybe that is too much to ask. I know it’s difficult to cover guys like Brandon Marshall and Calvin Johnson; big, strong and physical receivers who take what they want. But it is what we are paying you for? Granted, we aren’t paying you much right now inside your rookie contract but … this is your time, your big audition.
I was hoping that you would have taken this opportunity a little more seriously. But it is hard to give up on those flashes that I HAVE seen, however sparse they may be. I just think that we can find a replacement in this year’s draft that will actually develop. That’s the purpose of “draft and develop” anyways, you know. Without the other half of that equation, it is just a wasted pick. We can’t afford any more of those.
So, finish out the year but we’re going to have to call it quits afterward. Move on, Davon. Maybe a different venue will do you some good. Like Newhouse, please try and stay within the NFC North.
Thanks,
Citizen GM
