Running Back

Depending on the size of your league, this could be an area that is pretty depleted. Still, there are a few guys that aren’t highly owned that could come in for a week – and maybe more.

One such guy is Charles Sims of Tampa Bay. He was just activated off the IR-Return list and Doug Martin is doubtful to play this week, so he could play.

If Bobby Rainey has a recurrence of his fumblitis, Sims could see major time. He might still be too injured to make an impact this week, but keep an eye on his status because if he does play and makes an impact (or Rainey/Martin continue to disappoint) , he could end up as the top back in TB.

Another viable option is Jonas Gray. New England tends to cycle through backs, but with Stevan Ridley out with injury, he filled in as the focus last week, getting 17 carries and 86 yards. He looks firmly set as the between-the-tackles runner to complement Shane Vereen, and could see another large number of carries.

If you want a vulture-type option, Juwan Thompson in Denver is your guy. He could see goal-line carries again after grabbing 2 TDs last week, so that’s potentially easy points. I tend to shy away from TD-dependent options, but in weeks like this sometimes those are the best chance you’ve got to generate enough fantasy points for a win.

My preference for these guys goes Gray, Thompson, then Sims.

Again, not great to look at now, but any one of them has the potential to give you what you need for at least one week – and in the cases of Gray and Sims, possibly more.

Potential Pick-ups: Gray, Thompson, Sims

Predictions:
Gray – 60 yards, TD; about 12 fantasy points
Thompson – 40 yards, TD; about 10 fantasy points
Sims – 40 yards, TD; about 10 fantasy points
