As many of you tune into the 2015 NFL Combine this week, pay attention to former Houston Cougars defensive tackle Joey Mbu and the prospect that he may be on the fast track to a spot with the Green Bay Packers.
Mbu currently is pegged to go in the mid-rounds of the draft and is a viable option to end up getting drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the upcoming draft.
The Packers needed an extra body on the defensive front but with the cloud that surrounds Letroy Guion and the pending status on B.J. Raji, the need may go up drastically.
Joey Mbu was a durable player for the Cougars appearing in 50 games in his collegiate career as well as being named a captain in 2014. All together Mbu registered 92 tackles, 4 sacks, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 2 interceptions in those 50 games.
Mbu is listed at 6-3 and most recently has weighed in at 312 pounds. He is a natural fit at nose tackle in a 3-4 front. Mbu may not be the greatest pass rusher in this draft class but is a natural against the run, something the Packers sorely lack.
While the NFL.com draft profile rates Mbu with a 5.16 value, Mbu has striking similarities when it comes to the same rankings and description of current Packers lineman, Mike Daniels.
Here is the 2012 draft profile on Mike Daniels.
Since Mbu is a prospect that could be on the Packers radar, I reached out to him to ask him some questions. Luckily, Joey was nice enough to take out some time and answered all of my questions.
