CB Tramon Williams

Tramon Williams making the list is hardly a surprise. His future could directly determine how urgent of a need the cornerback position is for the Packers.

If he follows Davon House out the door, the unit will look pretty thin.

If the Packers can get him re-signed, however, Williams will add some much-needed stability.

There aren’t many signs pointing to a decline in his performances, either.

According to ESPN Stats, he recorded 83 and 71 tackles in 2013 and 2014, respectively – the two highest totals of his career.

He added six interceptions over those two seasons, too.

At 32 years old, he’s not a long-term option. But his experience and knowledge of the system must make him the number one target for Thompson from here on.

As of right now, it’s not looking too good for a return to Green Bay.

Williams visited the New Orleans Saints March 10, but they opted to sign former Patriot Brandon Browner instead. The Packers might not get so lucky this time.

If he leaves, the Packers will likely need to spend an early draft pick on a corner. With pressing needs at inside linebacker and defensive tackle, this would be a concern.

Finding a way of bringing back Williams would alleviate the pressure on Thompson and he could pick one up in the later rounds.

With plenty of cap room left, Thompson has been waiting patiently to make a move in the market.

When the time is right, expect him to pick up a bargain or two that can help the Packers patch some areas of need.
