There is a lot to like about Collins’ game, and he could be available for the Packers at the end of the first round.
The 6-foot-1, 205 cornerback has similar measurables and playing style as Davon House. He’s a physical, in-your-face type of defensive back, who excels in press man and will use his length to contest jump balls.
Collins does have better speed than House, and having only started 10 games at corner in college, the former LSU defensive back still has plenty of room to grow and improve his game.
His tremendous upside is what scouts are excited about when talking about him at the next level. There may be a bigger learning curve for Collins in the NFL than the other rookie cornerbacks, but the LSU product may turn out to be the best defensive back to come out of this draft.
There’s a good chance Collins will be off the board when the Packers are on the clock with the 30th overall pick, but if they have an opportunity to draft him, he’d be a good fit in their defense.
He could line up on the outside, which would allow Casey Hayward and Micah Hyde to remain over the slot. He would also give the Packers some size at the position and something different than what they have in Sam Shields.
