Round five … the Packers find a quarterback with huge upside

Round Five – QB Brett Hundley – A

There wasn’t a more thrilling and intriguing pick than UCLA QB Brett Hundley for the Packers.

When questioned about the overall grades of the Packers draft class, nearly all media outlets and experts singled out the Hundley pick as “the perfect situation for both sides.”

After learning the hard way about the quality of the backup QB position, the Packers took an interest in Hundley in the fifth round enough to move up and transfer a seventh-rounder to New England for him. Hundley is raw and flashed potential in college, but was falling down boards because of inconsistency.

The Packers know that they have the right people in place to develop his talents, either for a future Rodgers successor or trade bait in the future.

A heated QB battle will commence between Hundley and veteran Scott Tolzien, but I forsee the Packers keeping both QBs on the depth chart for insurance.

Gaining a talent like Hundley in the fifth round was a solid win for Thompson and the Packers.
