Wide Receiver (5)
Starters – Randall Cobb, Davante Adams, Ty Montgomery
Backups – Jeff Janis, Myles White
Cut – Ed Williams, Larry Pinkard, Jimmie Hunt, Javess Blue, James Butler, Jared Abbrederis
*Injured Reserve – Jordy Nelson
Due to Nelson’s injury, the Packers wide receiver position has worked itself out. The young receivers really stepped up and made splash plays against Philadelphia this past weekend.
Janis, White, and Montgomery all solidified themselves as the next three receivers on the depth chart after starters Cobb and Adams. They each showed they can make plays and will be called upon to do so this season to help fill the enormous void left by Nelson’s absence.
Williams and Pinkard have also shown some promise during training camp and should get practice squad considerations.
Unfortunately, Abbrederis’s young career in Green Bay is more than likely over. For a second year in a row, he has not participated in the preseason because of injury. His best chance at this point is to hope the Packers don’t play him in the final preseason game, so they can place him on injured reserve for another season.
If Green Bay decides to go this route with him, the former Wisconsin standout could get one last shot to make the roster next year.
