Tight End (3)
Starter – Richard Rodgers
Backups – Andrew Quarless, Kennard Backman
Cut – Justin Perillo, Henry Mitchell, Harold Spears
The Packers have kept as many as five tight ends on their regular season roster in years past, but this year’s group has had a quiet training camp and probably only warrants three roster spots.
Rodgers and Quarless are locks, and Backman has flashed some ability as receiver over the past two preseason games. He brings some much-needed athleticism to the position.
However, little has been seen from Perillo, Mitchell, or Spears. One of these three will probably land on the practice squad after the Packers make roster cuts.
Of these three, Perillo still might have a chance if he performs well in the final preseason game this Thursday. The Packers seem to like his ability as a blocker and his special teams contributions, so he could make the case for the team to keep four tight ends. However, he’d probably have to beat out Ripkowski for this to happen.
