Last Week

Cobb – 7 catches, 91 receiving yards, 3 TDs, 12 rush yards; 28.30 fantasy points
Adams – 0 catches, 0 receiving yards; 0.00 fantasy points
Jones – 7 catches, 139 receiving yards, 1 TD; 19.90 fantasy points
Montgomery – 2 catches, 14 receiving yards, 1 TD; 7.40 fantasy points
Janis – 0 catches, 0 receiving yards; 0.00 fantasy points

The receiving corps was able to put in a great performance as a whole, though there was at least one troubling area.

After being hampered by an ankle issue sustained in Week 2, Davante Adams only lasted a few snaps before he was forced out by it again.

Luckily, reports from sources such as himself have said that it is not a high-ankle sprain; that would mean multiple weeks with practically no shot at playing before trying to return. In this case, he’s currently set as questionable and could possibly play as soon as this weekend. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, I expect that to not happen however. This matchup — versus a subpar team that could be beaten without him — is a good opportunity to give him rest. You should plan on that happening, fantasy players.

Beyond him though, things look good.

Randall Cobb went off for a handful of catches and yardage with a trio of touchdowns on Monday night. James Jones burned the defense on free plays and got another touchdown (making it 4 in three games, including at least one in each). Ty Montgomery got the early score that began the offensive onslaught.

Here’s some more great news: we should see another excellent performance by the group.

As I stated on the Rodgers slide, the passing offense in Green Bay is #1 in DVOA while the 49ers are #29 in pass defense DVOA; that in itself is reason enough to expect a nice output by the group.

In terms of more specific wide receiver ratings by the guys at Football Outsiders (the ones behind DVOA), Green Bay has two guys in the top six: James Jones (#4) and Randall Cobb (#6). They should continue to show the abilities that put them so high on that list.

Cobb will be the first option of course, and as such he should see the highest number of targets, catches and yardage, likely with a touchdown thrown in there somewhere.

Jones has been touchdown-reliant for fantasy owners in two of his three matchups. Seeing as he has scored in each game and is the best red-zone option for Rodgers right now, it isn’t a terrible idea to think he could grab another. Don’t bank too heavily on that however; touchdowns tend to be pretty unpredictable.

Montgomery could stand to garner more targets with Adams possibly being out; his much-discussed big-play capabilities may get a chance to finally show themselves on offense.

Because of the other injuries on offense, even Janis may get more snaps. Until he actually makes an impact out there however, just wait and see with him

Week 4 Predictions:
Cobb – 8 catches, 100 receiving yards, 1 TD; 16.00 fantasy points
Adams – Likely Sitting Out
Jones – 5 catch, 60 receiving yards, 1 TDs; 12.00 fantasy points
Montgomery – 4 catches, 30 receiving yards; 3.00 fantasy points
Janis – 0 catches, 0 receiving yards; 0.00 fantasy points

Verdicts: Top Option (Cobb); Good-To-Great, Depending On TDs (Jones); Unlikely To Play (Adams); Outside Chance To Produce (Montgomery); No Chance (Janis)
