Green Bay Packers: Early 7-Round Mock Draft
By Dan Dahlke
Round 5a: Aaron Green, RB, TCU (5-11, 205)
Green eclipsed the 1,200-yard rushing mark his senior season, and as a two-year starter for the Horned Frogs, he recorded a whopping 23 touchdowns.
Green is a dynamic back with the shiftiness and acceleration to make guys miss in the open field. Because he’s undersized at 205, many wonder if he could hold up as a featured back in the NFL, causing him to slip on many draft boards.
However, Green offers a lot as a change-of-pace back and a third-down receiving weapon out of the backfield at the next level. This would certainly be something that could add a new element to the Packers offense.
Round 5b: Hassan Ridgeway, DL, Texas (6-3, 320)
Ridgeway is a big nose tackle prospect with the strength and size to hold blocks and plug holes against the run. He offers very little as a pass rusher, limiting him to a two-down player in the NFL.
However, his ability against the run and potential to eat blocks and keep linebackers free to flow to the ball, makes him a nice asset to any defense, especially if he can be selected in the later rounds.
The Packers may lose B.J. Raji or Letroy Guion this offseason. Datone Jones may also make the move to outside linebacker. The Packers could use another big body in their base defense.
