QB Scott Tolzien

Scott Tolzien is at a crossroads in his career. If he’s going to become a starting quarterback somewhere, now might be the time. There won’t be an opening at the No. 1 spot in Green Bay for some time, and the Packers could promote second-year Brett Hundley to the backup spot next year.

Tolzien was promoted off the Packers’ practice spot when Rodgers went down with a broken collarbone in 2013, and backup Seneca Wallace was lost a week later. Tolzien wasn’t ready to play at the NFL, but there were some encouraging signs when watching him play.

Two full seasons later without needing to see much of the field, Tolzien has come a long way in his development. Working under Rodgers will have certainly benefited him, as will have developing under Mike McCarthy’s watch.

A number of teams are on the hunt for a starting level quarterback, and Tolzien could draw interest on the market if he doesn’t re-sign with the Packers. Tolzien knows this, and it seems increasingly likely the time is now for him to find a new home and compete for a starting job.

It would be a surprise to see Tolzien return to Green Bay this offseason.

Prediction: Walks
