Green Bay Packers seven-round 2016 NFL mock draft
Round 2: LB Deion Jones, LSU
Inside linebacker is one of the Packers’ biggest needs, and they could find their man in the second round of Deion Jones out of LSU. Jones would bring speed to the Packers’ defense and could help shore up one of the inside spots, allowing Clay Matthews to move back outside on a full-time basis.
NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein projects Jones to fit at inside linebacker on a 3-4 defense, which would make him an ideal pick for the Packers. Zierlein wrote:
"“High-twitch, well-muscled athlete with tapered waist and powerful trunk. Quick lateral slide from gap-to-gap mirroring running back. Speed to chase from sideline to sideline. Accelerates off his spot and into his target preferring to wrap up and drive hips through the tackle. Brings pop behind his pads. Trustworthy. Handles his run fits and isn’t looking to be a hero.”"
After adding a dominant talent to the defensive line in the first round, the Packers turn their attention to defense again in the second to help fill one of the team’s biggest needs. With these two selections on board, the Packers’ defense would look much stronger up front.
