Green Bay Packers: Draft prospects to watch at 2016 NFL Scouting Combine
Running backs
James Starks is a pending free agent, and his future with the Packers is uncertain. After Eddie Lacy’s poor season, it’s possible Green Bay will be in the hunt for a new running back in the draft.
Jordan Howard, Indiana: Howard is a powerful running back who can break tackles. Long-term health is a concern given the nature in which he plays, but he could form a strong 1-2 punch with Lacy should Starks walk.
Devontae Booker, Utah: Booker is a three-down back with excellent vision. He can be used on passing downs, which could make an attractive option to Ted Thompson. Projected as a day two or three back.
Jonathan Williams, Arkansas: Like Booker, Williams can be a three-down back in the NFL and can help in pass protection. There are concerns with a previous foot injury, so his combine workouts will be interesting to watch. Could be an excellent complement to Lacy in the backfield.
Josh Ferguson, Illinois: Ferguson is a smaller back, but his versatility would make him an exciting addition to the Green Bay offense. He can be used in the slot as his route running is strong. Ferguson could immediately help out as a pass-catching back.
Kenyan Drake, Alabama: Considered a day three prospect who could be an excellent pass-catcher. Would be an ideal complement to Lacy’s bulldozing running style. Like Ferguson, can be lined up in the slot.
