Potential cut: Chris Canty, 3-4 DE (BAL)

2015 statistics: 9 games played, 281 snaps (26.61 percent of team totals), 19 tackles, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed

Pro Football Focus rankings: 76.3 (overall); 74.8 (run defense), 73.8 (pass rush), 60.3 (coverage)

Canty is a player I’ve been looking at for years to possibly join the Packers’ defensive line rotation. He’s someone who somehow manages to be a useful contributor every year but perpetually sits on the roster bubble.

Canty ended up being cut by the Ravens last season because of that before eventually re-signing on a cheaper contract; unfortunately for him, he could meet the same fate this season as well, with the Ravens having one of the more complicated cap situations in the league.

Should that happen, he would be a welcome addition for the Packers. Canty would fit well as a rotational piece on the defensive line, and his addition would be much-needed due to the aforementioned issues of with Pennel and the overall lacking depth of the position at the moment.

He would be an upgrade over B.J. Raji for about the same likely cost; providing Canty with those snaps that would go to someone like Raji would be a cheap yet effective move.
