Green Bay Packers 2015 season grades: Defensive line
Letroy Guion
Letroy Guion missed the Packers’ first three games of the season with suspension, but came right back in and played on every game for the rest of the season. Overall, it was exactly the type of year you would expect from him. Solid, but not dominant.
Guion is an average player that has a role on the Packers’ defensive line. Of the 123 interior linemen Pro Football Focus graded, Guion ranked 66th with an overall grade of 72.3, which falls under their starter category. Importantly perhaps, Guion was considered a far better run defender than B.J. Raji (76.7 grade to Raji’s 48.9). His better performance against the run could have played a part in earning a three-year extension.
Although his new deal is three years in length, it’s largely incentive based meaning Guion will have to play well to earn a lot of the money. This won’t have a high hit on the cap and the Packers can bail out on the deal pretty easily if he under performs in 2016.
Guion was bargain free agent signing for Ted Thompson in 2014 and has put in solid performances on a consistent basis, making him a valuable asset to the team moving forward.
