Green Bay Packers: Ten ways Packers can have perfect offseason
5. Sign Matt Forte
Matt Forte has tormented the Packers’ defense for years, but now there’s an opportunity to bring him to Lambeau Field on a permanent basis. Forte is a pending free agent and has been told by the Bears that he won’t be offered a new deal in Chicago.
According to Chris Wesseling of NFL.com, Forte is willing to take a pay cut in order to have an opportunity to win a Super Bowl.
“It’s not even about the money,” Forte said. “I want to be in the Super Bowls.”
Well that limits the options considerably, and takes the likes of Jacksonville and Oakland out of play. Only a handful of teams in the league can offer Forte a realistic shot at a Super Bowl, and the Packers are one of them.
As a cheaper option, the Packers would be very much in play if interested. As James Starks is a free agent, going after Forte would make a lot of sense. Despite being 30-years-old, he has looked after his body and still has plenty left in the tank.
Forte is a true professional and would be a complementary piece to Eddie Lacy. The Packers’ offense would benefit from his ability in the passing game. Signing Forte could be a game-changer for Green Bay.
