The Green Bay Packers face some tough decisions with their own free agents. Let’s play a little devil’s advocate.

Bringing back their own players is a value the Green Bay Packers hold dear. Each year, GM Ted Thompson is faced with a number of key decisions on who to bring back and who to let walk. In the salary cap era, it’s impossible to keep hold of everyone.

This offseason, the Packers face tough decisions on cornerback Casey Hayward, kicker Mason Crosby and linebackers Nick Perry and Mike Neal. Will James Starks and James Jones return on offense? In time, we’ll find out.

Thompson needs to determine the pros and cons of re-signing each player. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do right now. In a perfect world, the Packers would bring everybody back and let them compete for spots in training camp. But that’s not the way the NFL works, and a number of the Packers’ free agents will be finding new teams in the coming months.

Let’s take a look at each Packers player set to hit free agency and weigh up the pros and cons of bringing them back to Green Bay. We’ll start with Casey Hayward.
