RB Matt Forte, Chicago Bears

Matt Forte has been told he will not be returning to the Chicago Bears in 2016. Forte has since said he isn’t worried about money, but would rather win a Super Bowl ring. That wipes a number of teams off the list to lure his signature, and brings the Packers firmly into play. There’s a chance a deal worth $3-4 million a year would be enough to bring him to Green Bay.

And for that value, Ted Thompson shouldn’t put down the phone until he’s landed Forte with the Packers.

If Forte wants a championship, he knows the Packers have a shot to go get one. There are only around five teams who can give him that opportunity — Seattle, New England, Carolina, Arizona and Dallas spring to mind. But even that list could be shortened, and not all five are in need of a running back.

Can Forte still be a No. 1 back? In Green Bay, he wouldn’t need to be. Eddie Lacy is the workhorse for the Packers, which would allow Forte to be a complementary piece and give the passing game a boost.

There will be plenty of interest in Forte. The Patriots would make sense, as would the Cowboys. But Thompson should ensure the Packers’ name is in the hat.
