Green Bay Packers: Five first round options in 2016 NFL Draft
DT Jarran Reed, Alabama
If you’re in need of defensive linemen, this is the draft class for you. With so many talented options this year, a player like Jarran Reed could fall onto the Packers’ lap at No. 27. Reed is an excellent run defender who could help stuff opponent’s ground game from day one.
The Packers’ Achilles heel on defense in recent years has been its leaky run defense. Getting after the passer was no problem in 2015: Green Bay was tied for No. 7 in the league in sacks with 43. But becoming a force stopping the run will help take the defense from good to elite.
Mike Daniels is a star on the defensive line, and adding another big talent would potentially make the front three one of the best in the NFL. Reed could play 5-technique for Green Bay, shifting Letroy Guion to nose tackle. Mike Pennel also has the potential to play at nose, and he could battle for the starting job when he returns from a four-game suspension.
With Reed, Guion and Daniels on the line, the Packers would be more imposing against the run. Add in a strong inside linebacker and the defense would be greatly improved.
Next: A no-brainer if he drops to No. 27
